I
have a copy of a recent Letter to the Editor on my desk at the office and framed
copy of the same letter in my home office. It is a litany of complaints about
me and my leadership style. It is, for the most part, the illogical ramblings
of a misanthrope. It summarizes some of the complaints I have heard that I am solely
responsible for. To the best of my recollection these
include: the nationwide increase in insurance premiums, the current collective
bargaining agreement, the apathy of our membership, age discrimination, sex
discrimination and the Great Recession. I’ve tried to explain all of this to my
wife in a manner which advances the premise that a man with that much authority should get out of
having to take out the trash, but so far she’s not buying it.
It is because Gail is smarter than the average bear...
ReplyDeleteIf only to wield so much power. I read somewhere (and I haven't fact checked it in years so I can't verify it's accuracy anymore) that Isreal required it's citizenry (all of them) to join the military for 2 years. I am not by nature a believer that the military fixes all things but I think the premise was that it gave people a 'buy in' to their own protection, it made them more than the sum of their paltry backwoods existence, and by their stint of time at least two years of college education.
As far as the sex discrimination I am confidant that this guys (I am making a large assumption it is a guy) reason for insomnia is that women are still not even on the playing field of fire service. I must have missed his phone call offering to make the place a little more equal.
